FORGET
A wave captured with a slow shutter in the mid-morning light.
Long Island, NY.
Many of my images are made during the hour around sunrise or sunset, when the light is rich with color and contrast—especially when shooting east into the rising sun or west into the setting one. On the right day, when the wind and waves cooperate, a morning session can stretch well beyond the early hour. Under a clear sky, the water begins to glow—blues, greens, and even golden hues emerge as sunlight cuts through the thinner edges of a wave and bounces off its denser sections.
For this image, I used a neutral density (ND) filter to manage the strong sunlight and extend my shutter speed. The result is a soft, painterly effect that captures not just the form, but the feeling of the wave—the way light flickers across its surface as it rises and surges toward shore.
I never tire of those warm New York summer mornings. Grateful to have this one preserved—Thankfully this moment is now immortalized and available to bring into any space.
